Destinations: Puise Nina - Estonia

Puise Nina (The Puise Peninsula) juts into the Batlic Sea on the very NW tip of Matsalu Bay, Estonia. This is a great spot to watch passage birds in April and early May, particularly divers, geese, sea-duck and waders.

Special Birds: Rock Partridge

Rock Partridge Alectoris graeca is much sought-after by birders. It ranges from the southern Alps into the Balkans, in rocky terrain. It is not uncommon locally, but has declined in many areas, and is often flighty and difficult to see well. This one was photographed on Pag, Croatia, in 2011 by Thomas Hochebner.

The Stock Dove Columba oenas (aka Stock Pigeon) is fairly common in the region. It nests in tree-holes, natural cavities and the old holes of Black Woodpecker (as in this one in Hungary). In winter flocks gather in farmlands.

Special Birds: White Stork

The vast majority of the world's White Storks Ciconia ciconia breed in Eastern Europe. From The Baltic States to the Balkans they are familiar, and much loved, birds. October in Hungary Tour
